Our bright and spacious library has a range of fiction and non-fiction books for children, young adults and adults. We also have large print books, maps, and audio books on CD.
The library is free to join and membership gives you access to all library services in North Yorkshire. Books and audio books can be reserved from other libraries across the county. Our volunteers can help you with this.
We have a dedicated local history and geography section, local newspapers, and information about local services.
We are a warm hub, with hot drinks available. There is free Wifi and there are board games for the grown-ups and plenty of children's toys to keep the little ones entertained.
We also have an extensive selection of jigsaws that can be borrowed for just £1.
We have eight computers, and library membership currently gives you free access. There is desk space for working or studying as well.
We have a colour photocopier/printer/scanner for which there is a small charge per sheet.
Our Digital Buddy volunteers can help with Blue Badge and Bus Pass applications.
We hold a regular pop-up library service for local primary schools and we also welcome visits from local nurseries and child minders.
There is a small meeting room available for hire.

Our FREE Home Library and Information Service (HLIS) brings books, large print books, DVD movies and audiobooks right to your door.
We’ll chat with you about your reading, listening and watching preferences so that we can tailor the selections we’ll be making for you. We’ll deliver them to you once a fortnight or keep them at the library for collection by a member of your family, a carer or a friend.
This service is ideal if you are unable to get to the library, cannot carry books comfortably, or if you are a busy carer. We deliver to people who live in residential and nursing homes too.
To join the HLIS simply call into the library, drop us an email at library@thirskcommunitylibrary.org.uk or ring us on 01609 534589 to arrange a home visit.
